Designed as a new maker space within the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples, this project transforms an underutilized second-floor classroom area into an inviting, flexible environment for hands-on learning — specifically aimed at engaging older children ages 7-12.

Selected through a closed design competition, Hlevel reimagined the space as a workshop-inspired lab that balances an industrial character with a sense of play. The layout is highly adaptable, incorporating extensive built-in storage, a lofted hideaway, and a large overhead door that allows the room to shift between open collaboration and smaller classroom settings.

Equally important was the connection to the adjacent terrace. Previously unusable due to heat and lack of shade, the outdoor space was redesigned with a large trellis structure that creates a comfortable extension of the learning environment — encouraging indoor-outdoor exploration.

The result is a dynamic space to learn, build, and experiment — supporting creativity, curiosity, and flexibility as the museum continues to grow with its audience.
